Joy Arlene Rich Podbevsek, 84, passed away peacefully at her home in Scofield after a fun-filled day of shopping in Price.

She was born June 18, 1936, in Wellington, Utah to Vard and Ellen Smith Rich.  On April 19, 1957, she married Stanley “Rip” Podbevsek in Las Vegas, Nevada; he preceded her in death on December 30, 2002. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple.

Joy was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in many callings, including the primary and relief society.  She was also a member of Daughters of Utah Pioneers.  Joy lived a very fun-filled life and some of her fondest memories were those she shared while reminiscing with family and friends.  Family meant everything to her and she was always checking on how everyone was doing.  Joy loved quilting, enjoying the serenity of her beloved Scofield and tending to her garden this year. She will be sorely missed by her family and many dear friends.

Joy is survived by her son, Vard Podbevsek, daughter, Kim (Mike) Erkkila, both of Scofield; two sisters and one brother, Essie (Dick) Jones, Price, Carol (Perry) Timothy, Gary (Kay) Rich, both of Wellington; brother-in-law, Bob Schmidt, Price; four grandchildren, Tod Erkkila, Brad (Jennifer) Erkkila, James (Kamille) Erkkila and Jennifer (Aaron) Call.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Stanley “Rip” Podbevsek; infant brother, Smith Rich; sisters, Lena (Merrill) Jensen and Bonnie (Robert) Wood; brother, Vernon (Katherine) Rich, and a brother-in-law, Mar Grange.

Graveside services will be Tuesday, September 8, 2020, 11:00 a.m., at the Scofield Town Cemetery where masks are required for those attending.  Mitchell Funeral Home will be open Saturday from 9:00-3:00 p.m. and Sunday from 9:00-12:00 noon for those wishing to sign the guestbook and view.  Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home where friends are welcome to share memories of Joy online at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net
