
The Emery Spartan soccer team traveled to Monroe on Thursday to take on the South Sevier Rams. Emery would score three goals in each half as well as put up a shutout to take the 6-0 victory.
It has really been an up and down season for the Spartans losing their last three matches. The game against South Sevier was the region opener for Emery and the win puts them at 2-5 overall but more importantly 1-0 in region.
Five different Spartans scored in the match. Alexis Winter, Aspen Hansen, Nya Parkins and Tylee Norton each scored one goal while Kiralyn Olsen also scored her first two goals of the season.
Arilyn Allred had one save as the Spartan defense only allowed one shot on goal and Allred posted the shutout.
The Spartans were ranked No. 13 in the Utah High School Activities Association’s intial RPI ranking that came out on Wednesday. These polls will continue to be updated throughout the season and will be used to rank teams for the State Championship Tournament.
Up next for the Spartans is a home meeting with San Juan on Tuesday September 8. The match is set to start at 4:00.
