The Emery Spartans wrapped up the swim regular season with a second place finish on both the boy’s and girl’s side of the pool Thursday afternoon at the Region 12 Championship meet in Price at the Desert Wave Pool.

Claiming first place in four individual events, the Lady Spartans gathered 462 points, finishing behind the two time defending 3A State Champion Carbon Dinos. Richfield ended in third with 332 points, followed by Grand’s 185. Gunnison, South Sevier and North Sevier completed the field of seven.

Aubrey Guymon secured the first individual event win for the Lady Spartans in the 200 yard IM as she finished at 2:38.48, barely beating Carbon’s Nicole Swasey by just over one second. Guymon would later join Sydney Carter, Cambrie Jensen and Haley Guymon for a first place nod in the 400 yard free relay.

Haley Guymon would add two more first place finishes for Emery, first winning the 100 yard free. Guymon later took home the top spot in the 100 yard breaststroke, finishing with a time of 1:12.54.

The Emery boy’s team accumulated 360 points, falling to Richfield’s 427 for a second place finish. Grand was right behind the Spartans for third place with 335. Carbon, Gunnison, South Sevier and North Sevier rounded out the field of seven.

The lone first place finish for the boy’s team came in the 200 yard medley relay. Dax Minchey, Kegley Terry, Elias Morris and Jacob Fauver took home the top spot with a time of 1:57.57.

With Thursday’s Region 12 Championship now in the books, the Spartans will shift their focus to the 3A State Championship, which will take place Feb. 12 and 13 at Brigham Young University in Provo.
