The Carbon Dino track and field team made the long trip to Blanding on Friday to take part in the San Juan County Championships. Through 16 events the Dinos battled with teams from around the state and in the end the boy’s and girl’s both claimed first place finishes.

The Lady Dinos have consistently finished in the top spots all season long and San Juan would be no different scoring 276 points to claim first Manti finished in second with 173. San Juan, Monticello and Grand rounded out the remainder of the field.

The ladies claimed eight first place finishes out of the 16 events placing in at least the top five in every one. In the 100 meters Eminie Elliot would take a first place finish with a time of 13.43, teammate Lyndee Mower would cross the finish right after her at 13.51 and Mia Crompton would cross in fourth at 13.83.  Another monster finish would come in the 200 where Carbon would claim second through fourth position, Shae Nielson of San Juan would finish in first place with a time of 27.36, the Dino trio of Haylee Prescott, Mower and Crompton crossed the finish within almost one second of each other.

Relays were once again a huge opportunity for points for Carbon. In the 4×100 the relay team of Makenna Blanc, Eminie Elliot, Haylee Prescott and Lyndee Mower claimed a top finish turning in a time of 52.71. In the 4×400, Blanc and Mower would be joined by Beverly Lancaster and Mia Crompton would claim second behind Grand and the Dinos would claim another second place finish in the sprint relay.

The Lady Dinos would earn a first place finish in the high jump compliments of Haylee Prescott she would also grab the top spot in the long jump, an event in which Carbon claimed the top seven places. Miriah Salee would claim another first place in the javelin.

The boys team would also claim the top spot with 183 points followed by Moticello, Manti, San Juan and Grand.

Ryker Childs was responsible for three of the teams seven first place finishes in the 100 meter, 110 meter hurdles and 300 meter hurdles. Childs also claimed second in the long jump.

Other first place finishes for the Dinos were from Will Carmichael in the 200 and Easton Humes in the 800. Bradley Wood threw for the top spot in the shot put and Bowden Richardson took first in the javelin.

The Dinos will take part in the Uintah Invitational on April 17, at Uintah High School in Vernal.
