Price City each month sends a representative to Castle Country Radio to keep listeners posted or informed on various topics. This month brought in Price City Public Works Director, Miles Nelson who spoke on water resources and current city projects.

“We’re very much aware as many of you are of the fact that we are in a drought situation, the state’s declared a drought emergency. We’re trying to make sure that people understand that we are encouraging smart watering, watering wisely. We want to emphasize we don’t typically do water restrictions because we find that it’s not as effective as asking people to be conscientious about their watering habits,” stated Nelson. The best time to water is in the early mornings before 10:00 am or late evening hours. Be sure to adjust the watering schedule to avoid overwatering.

The city’s is currently working on sewer cleaning which is taking place in the North half of the city. “Sewer cleaning, we do that every two years. That’s a practice we do to make sure our sewer mains remain functional and avoid back-ups which are obviously the worst-case scenario for a resident to have to deal with a backup. So these sewer cleanings are important and in some cases, it can create an inconvenience for some of the residents because their sewer system are aging and it takes a toll on them a little bit but it is important that we keep those systems clear,” explained Nelson. Most residents and businesses have received notices either in the mail or on their doors about the cleaning. The city hopes to get to the south portion of the city by July.

“As far as road maintenance goes, we’re finally warm enough now that we can move forward with our patching of our potholes and sinkholes, and things that have been bugging us for all winter long. That’s due to the temperatures we usually can’t get asphalt until this time of year to be able to make those adjustments and fixes. We can put different material on there during the wintertime but it only lasts for a short time and we like to make those fixes more permanent,” stated Nelson. The city appreciates citizens notifying them of these types of conditions, particularly on the more severe problems so they can make repairs promptly.

There are some road construction projects taking place on 300 East, 700 East and 4th Avenue. “We got 300 East up near the university between 400 North and 600 North where we are replacing the waterline and replacing the road – we’re excited to get that remedied and fix there. We are also fixing water line and road on 4th Avenue which has been a problematic spot really bad waterline for years. We are reconstructing 700 East it’ll be below 100 South, between 100 South and 400 South. That was the repair work on the waterlines was done in the previous year but we’re finally getting to reconstructing that road and making it right as it has been in bad shape for a while,” said Nelson. The city is asking that drivers traveling in these areas please slow down and use extra caution through these and all construction zones.
