Elmo City recently had to make some changes to the dumpster service they offer their citizens. Castle Country Radio was able to speak over the telephone with Mayor James Winn to discuss all the details.

“We had some dumpsters, we’ve put them just outside of town and when that happened, we started having some problems with people using it as a drug spot, I guess, pick up drugs and that kind of thing so the Sheriff’s Department let us know that. Some concerned citizens came to town council and ask that we put a fence up or something. So we plan to put a fence up but until that fence gets put up and we’re able to lock it then we’re not able to have the dumpsters,” stated Mayor Winn. The city hopes within a month or two that they will have been able to install fencing around the dumpster area to prevent any more illegal activity. The city appreciates those concerned citizens bringing the situation to light.

Pickle Ball is becoming a well-known sport in the area and the city plans on installing those types of courts for citizens to utilize. “We’ve been planning it for a couple of months but we finally made the decision last night of what we are going to get and hopefully we’ll be able to get that put in this month. They also want us to put a tennis net up because the tennis courts are gone at the high school right now so the girls want to practice, so we’re going to set that up as well,” explained Mayor Winn. According to city officials, the courts should be completed within the month.

The city’s sidewalk project has been completed and citizens are enjoying the new additions to the city. “Yea, we are all done. We had the final inspection last month and looks like everything looks good. Good project we did an extra big one so it will be another year or two and then we’ll do another one, put some more sidewalks in,” said Mayor Winn. This was a beautification project to enhance the look of the city.
