The Helper Merchants 19U team have been taking part in the State American Legion Tournament since last weekend winning their first two games and moving them into the quarterfinals on Monday against Lone Peak. Helper struggled to find their offense in the game and fell 8-2, dropping them into the one loss bracket.
Falling into the lower bracket means that they will now have to win five games in the next three days starting Tuesday. If they would have won they would have had an extra day to rest.
Lone Peak earned their spot by beating the No. 1 seed out of Cache Valley. The Merchants earned the No. 4 spot.
After coming out in the previous two games and scoring 25 total runs, Helper was only able to put up two runs on just three hits in the contest.
The Merchants will now need to have a short memory as they will play again on Tuesday. Falling into the one loss bracket will make them have to run the table, meaning that they will be eliminated with their next loss. If they make it through the gauntlet, they will play in the championship game on Thursday.
