
The Pinnacle Panthers baseball team has been on a bit of a skid recently winning one of their last seven. Coming off a 13-8 win over Tintic on Tuesday, Wednesday they were home for the Green River Pirates and earned an 11-1 victory in five innings.
The game started with the Pirates going up one in the first as Jordan Anderson reached first base on an error that would allow Ryker Meadows to cross the plate.
Pinnacle would come alive in the second inning as they were nearly unstoppable adding eight runs, none bigger than when Michael Schmitz stepped up to the plate and hit a three run inside the park home run to deep right field.
Coming up again in the bottom half of the third, the Panthers would add three more runs and then turn the defense on the rest of the way behind McGuire Kocks on the mound to close out the Pirates and seal the victory in five innings.
Schmitz would lead the way offensively for Pinnacle with two hits and two runs while racking up three RBIs. Kocks and Peyton Riley both gathered hits for the Panthers as well as Kocks adding two RBIs and Riley one.
On the mound Kocks got the start and the win going five innings giving up just one hit and one run while striking out 12.
For the Pirates, Camden Anderson had the lone hit.
Green River used a couple of pitchers in the contest with Meadows getting the start going two innings, surrendering eight runs (four earned) on three hits, and struck out three. Jay Mendez came in to finish the game going two innings giving up three runs.
The Pirates are sitting at 1-12 on the season with seven games left until the regular season wraps up on Sept. 24. Up next is a region contest on the road at Diamond Ranch Academy.
Pinnacle is now 3-13 with nine games left to go. Up next is a home game on Friday against Wayne at Carlson-Colosimo Field at the Toy Atwood Complex. First pitch is set for 3:00.
