Emery High School girl’s basketball coach Lynn Tuttle has been named the 2021 3A Coach of the Year by the Utah High School Activities Association.

Tuttle was officially presented the award Wednesday afternoon at the Sleepy Ridge Golf Course in Orem.

“Emery girl’s basketball has been very successful in the past several years,” said Emery High School Principal Steven Gordon. “They have won numerous region championships along with four state championships. Lynn gets his teams to compete year after year and has a lot of success both on and off the floor with his teams.”

Tuttle served as an assistant coach to Gordon at Emery High School from 2004 until 2011. During those years the coaches built a winning tradition as the program won state titles in 2007 and again in 2011.

In 2015 Tuttle returned to the girl’s program taking over has head coach. During his time at the helm the Lady Spartans have reached the State Championship game four times, winning two in 2018 and 2019.

A graduate of Emery High School, Tuttle attended the College of Eastern Utah on a basketball scholarship. He later transferred to Salt Lake Community College where he would finish out his junior college playing career.

“The experiences we have in high school often shape us for the rest of our lives,” said Tuttle. “Being involved in activities, specifically high school sports, teaches teamwork, responsibility, self-discipline, accountability and respect for others. Those that participate in high school activities can feel a sense of belonging, which can contribute to overall good health.”

Tuttle is the second Emery coach to receive the award in the last three years following former boys head coach Todd Jeffs in 2019.
