Emery High School senior Alex Noriega earned All-State recognition for his performance on the soccer field with a 3A Honorable Mention, it was announced Sunday morning.

Playing forward throughout his senior campaign, Noriega led the team in goals scored with eight. His most dynamic performance came in the opening round of the 3A State Tournament as he found the back of the net twice in a 2-1 win over the Union Cougars.

Scoring in half of the games played this season, Noriega also delivered the lone goal in an early season win over the Delta Rabbits.

The Honorable Mention marks the second straight season Noriega has earned the award. He also led the team in goals scored last season with seven.

Coaches throughout the 3A classification vote on the All-State team. The Deseret News selects the MVP, which went to Layton Christian forward Enzo Jaques.
