The 2nd Annual Ferron Stake Emergency Preparedness Fair is scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 24 from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm at the Ferron Stake Center on 555 South 440 West in Ferron, Utah. Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with Event Representative, Emily Neilson to discuss all the details.
This is a free event opened to all community members who would like to learn more about emergency planning. “We’re going to have exhibits with lots of resources that people can take home information. The USU Eastern Extension Service will be giving classes on food storage, and micro-gardening and how to grow plants indoors. Also we have Be Ready Utah coming in and they are the keynote speaker, Brian will be speaking on water filtration and storage, as well as sanitation,” explained Neilson. There will be live demonstrations and free food samples available.
There will be an opportunity to learn basic first aid by the American Red Cross. Plus for the children there will be an opportunity to have emergency vehicle tours. “We’re having an emergency vehicle tour from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. We’ve invited Ferron City to bring their fire trucks, and Utah Highway Patrol, as well as the Emery County Sheriff’s Department to bring a vehicle. So the kids will be able to do tours,” said Neilson. The event organizers are very appreciative that the local law enforcement is able to provide this opportunity for the children.
There will be a free lunch provided by a local sponsor. “It is Castleview Hospital, we’ll be having sloppy joes, chips, cookie and a soda. One of our sponsors is Pepsi, so they are providing the beverages. But this event is family-friendly, you know kids will enjoy the emergency vehicle tours. But you never know when a disaster is going to happen and so we just want you to enjoy the fair and go home and hopefully make a plan,” stated Neilson. Other event sponsors include Ferron City, Magnuson Lumber, Mainstreet, BKs Stop & Shop, Desertview Credit Union, Sutherlands, Jones ACE Hardware, Castle Valley Supply, Southeastern Utah Health Department and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
