The Boys & Girls Club – Price Club is back to school and students are attending the afterschool program and enjoying the services offered at the club. Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with Club Coordinator, Quakee Tabone to talk about what is taking place at the club.

The club have been in their current building now for two years and have recently made some changes inside to better accommodate the needs of their members. “We had some big people down looking at our building and just looking at whatever we can do for that. Some big changes are coming, but we’ve already made a little bit, we’ve switched the teens up and put them up into a different room. We’ve got tv, Xbox, the Wii, we have so many things set up, computers back there for them. The look on their faces when they came in and saw that room all changed up and their own space, it was priceless,” explained Tabone. The club also installed new carpet and will get some new couches delivered from Hard Hat Furniture so it will give that space a homier look.

The great thing about the Boys & Girls Club – Price Club is that they are a good resource to helps students academically, that is their number one priority for it’s members. “Yep, they come in, and have a little snack, and get settled down from school, and then we grab their homework out and we help them the best we can getting that all done. It’s really great because then if they do get picked up early or they leave early, they get that time for their family. They don’t have to worry about doing homework and school work after they’re home,” stated Tabone. The club wants to ensure that each member is achieving academic success so it’s very important for them to assist students with any homework each day.

When the homework is completed, there are many activities and workshops to enjoy with the majority of them geared around STEM education. “Our juniors are doing Healthy Habits; they’re focusing on no-bake cooking. So anything that they can make and throw together that doesn’t have to have the stove. They made muddy buddies yesterday, they loved it. Our teens are doing folklore right now, with the spooky season rolling in and they have just loved it, they are obsessed with all things scary,” said Tabone.
