The Southeast Utah Health Department is gearing up for Flu Season by offering walk-in clinics and a Halloween drive thru clinic. Nursing Director, Sara Braby and Emergency Preparedness Director, Chet Ingram both took time to come into Castle Country Radio to discuss all the details of Flu Season vaccines.

Although we are early in the season for the flu it’s still a great habit to get a flu shot to prevent getting the flu in the long run. “October is a great time to get your flu shot. Down at the health department we have vaccines for six months and up, we have a high dose flu for adults 65 and older, so we can cover all ages of people that want the shot,” stated Braby. Getting the shot helps you stay healthy, lessen the symptoms if you do get the flu and assists in building your immunity.

There are certain times that have been set aside for flu shots to be administered at the health department. “So they can walk-in but we have scheduled times so they don’t have to make appointments. So in Price at our office, we have the clinic Monday we do it all day, so 8:00 am to 12:00 pm, and then 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm. On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday we do 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm. In our Castle Dale office, we do Mondays 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm, they can come get a flu shot. If they need a time outside of those hours, we’re happy to make appointments,” explained Braby. There are other vaccines that the health department administers, like the shingles, pneumonia, HPV, and meningitis.

The Southeast Utah Health Department is excited to host a Drive Thru Flu Clinic on Monday, October 31. “We are doing a drive thru style Trick or Treatin’ Event its going to be on Halloween day we’re going to do it from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm, and with that we’re going to do a drive-thru from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm for people who don’t want to trick or treat. These are people that have mobility issues, that have a harder time getting in and out of places, they’ll be able to pull up, go through our drive-thru have a flu shot administered and be on their way,” stated Ingram. There will be a child car seat safety station available at the event, plus an opportunity to win a booster seat. There will be candy given away to the little trick or treaters that come through the drive-thru. This event is open to everyone in the community.
