The Emery Lady Spartans suffered a season ending loss to the Canyon View Falcons in the second round of the 3A State Tournament Wednesday afternoon in Cedar City.

Ranked No. 15 in the 3A classification, the Lady Spartans traveled to meet the No. 2 ranked Falcons for the third time this season. In the end the Falcons proved to be too much as they grabbed a hefty a 9-0 victory.

Canyon View took complete control early as they posted seven first half goals. The second half moved swiftly as the Falcons added two more goals, leading to the eventual win.

Emery advanced to the second round of the state tournament after topping the Grand Red Devils 3-2 at home this past Saturday. Earning the No. 2 ranking the RPI, the Falcons received a first-round bye.

Wednesday’s meeting was the third of the season between the two teams. Canyon View won the previous two by a combined total of 11 goals.

The second-round loss dips Emery’s final record to 5-13 overall on the season. Three of the five wins came at the expense of Grand.
