013-6

Lady Dino softball squad made the trip to Draper to face the Juan Diego Screaming Eagles Friday. The Dinos were already up by 10 in the top of the fifth when they would tack on another 10 runs and take the 20-0 win.

Carbon’s regular season is coming to a close quickly, their final game is Tuesday in Roosevelt against Union. They will begin the state playoffs on Saturday.

The Dinos collected twenty hits in the contest, but started out slowly in the first inning putting just a pair of runs on the board, but apparently they were just saving it for later on, because in the third it was a batters showcase with six singles and a pair of doubles on their way to eight runs in the inning. Reese Ardohain would collect two of her team high four RBI’s off of a single that drove in Haven Byerly and Brielle Sandoval to push the score to 7-0.

In the fourth, the Carbon bats went silent but they were just reloading for the fifth, when they put up another 10 runs. The Lady Dinos collected nine more singles in the inning and the scoring barrage ended when Gabby Vasquez reached on an error by the second baseman and Annie McGinnis and Taylor Secor scored putting a 20 spot on the scoreboard for the Dinos.

Ardohain and Sandoval each went 3-4 at the plate, with Ardohain adding four RBI’s and a pair of runs and Sandoval racking up two runs and RBI’s. McGinnis went 2-4 with three runs scored and a pair of RBI’s in the win.

Byerly was on the mound for Carbon getting the complete game, giving up a hit and striking out 10.

Carbon is back on the field on Tuesday to face Union, in the final game of the regular season.

On Wednesday, the final RPI and bracket for the 3A State Softball Championships will be released. The playoffs are set to begin on Saturday with a play-in game that will be followed by the opening round. Those games will be held at pod sites.
