Now that summer is winding down its time to think about preparing our yards and gardens for the fall months. The USU-Extension-Emery County is excited to offer a gathering to talk all things Fall Gardening on September 14 at the Castle Dale Library at 6:00 pm. Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with Assistant Professor, Rowe Zwahlen to discuss all the details.
This gathering is pretty informal its just a group of individuals getting together to talk about Fall Gardening. “We’ll talk a little bit about things that you might want to do with your garden this fall, if you still got the gardening bug and want to plant some late season or end of season kind of crops, some vegetables. If you want to plant flowers this time of year, if you want to get things ready to plant grass, all of those things you could do in the Fall. Then we’re going to talk a little bit about cleaning things up and getting ready for next Spring and planning for all of those things you might want to do next year,” said Zwahlen. This is a great opportunity for gardeners to come together to share tips and tricks with one another. This is a free event and open to any and all gardeners in the Emery and Carbon County area. Lite refreshments will be served.
Another fun event coming up in November is the Design 4 Every Drop workshop. This will take place on November 3 and November 4 on the campus of USU Eastern inside the Jennifer Leavitt Student Center. “What we’ll do, beforehand you’ll have a month to do this, but we have some online modules, it’s an online course that we’ll walk you through the beginnings of the landscape design process. So we’ll help you with measuring your yard and getting that kind of drawn to scale. Sounds intimidating but we’ll really do it step by step, its very easy. Really just a lot of this is taking some time to think about what it is you really want to have happen in your landscape,” said Zwahlen. This course builds participants’ awareness of their property and guides them through the first steps in the landscape design process using a series of required, pre-workshop online modules and assignments.
If you are interested in participating in the Design 4 Every Drop workshop you must register no later than October 1. You can register at https://www.eventbrite.com/ or if you have any questions please call the USU Extension – Emery County at (435) 381-2381.
