
Carbon Baseball made the trip to St. George to take part in the Pine View Tournament. After four games in two days, the Dinos earned three wins with the only loss coming on Saturday in the final game against the host team the Pine View Panthers.
The Dinos are sitting at 6-2 in the very young season with the other loss coming at the hands of Uintah in the opening game of the season.
Carbon opened the weekend against the Murray Spartans, a team from 5A. The Dinos used a big fifth inning putting up nine runs to solidify the win. With a pair of outs and the bases loaded, Maizen Prichard singled to right field to bring in Logan Bennett, and Peyton Molinar. putting the score at 10-2, Carbon would add one more run in the inning and take the 11-5 victory.
Molinar ended the contest with a pair of hits and one RBI, Michael Vigil added one hit, one RBI, and three runs. Prichard, Bennett, Jace Barlow, and Cameron Vasquez all collected a pair of hits.
Maddex Willson got the start on the mound and earned the win, going six innings giving up seven hits, and three runs. two earned and struck out three. Paxton Falk came in to close out the game giving up two runs, one earned.
In their final contest on Friday, the Dinos faced the Highland Rams, another team from 5A. The Dinos would battle back and forth until the fifth when they would score four runs and open up the game, holding on to take the 8-2 win.
With two outs and the score 4-1, Kanon Childs came to the plate with Vasquez and Madsen on and sent a triple to right bringing them both home and pushing the score to 6-1. Carbon would add one more in the fifth and then another in the seventh to take the victory.
Diego Vega collected three hits and scored three runs. Childs had one hit, with a pair of RBIs and runs scored. Madsen had two hits, and two runs and scored three in the win.
Stockton Kennedy got the complete game win on the mound, giving up a pair of hits and runs while striking out six.
The first game on Saturday was against the Idaho Falls Tigers, from 4A. Carbon would take care of the Tigers in five innings 12-2.
For Carbon, Jaxon Ingram got the start and the win on the mound, keeping Idaho Falls in check going 4.2 innings giving up two runs on three hits while striking out six.
Vasquez collected a trio of hits driving in one and scoring one, Madsen had a pair of hits with four RBIs, and Vigil and Molinar each had one hit and a pair of RBIs.
In the final game of the weekend, Carbon faced host team Pine View. The Panthers handed the Dinos their only loss of the weekend 10-0.
Pine View jumped out to a nine-run lead after two innings, as the Dinos would use two pitchers in the first two innings, Prichard went one inning giving up five runs, three earned on four hits, and struck out one. Robert Nichols came in and surrendered four runs, three earned on three hits. Falk would come in to end the contest going 2.2 innings giving up one run on one hit while he struck out four.
Kennedy and Vega were the only diners to collect a hit in the loss for Carbon.
The Dinos go back on the road on Tuesday when they travel to Delta, They will then turn around and welcome the Rabbits to Price on Wednesday.
Game time for Wednesday’s meeting is set for 3:00 p.m..
