It’s time to sit down with Emery County Commissioner Jordan Leonard who was happy to report on the last commission meeting, discuss upcoming events and highlight Board Members. Castle Country Radio has the opportunity every other week to speak with the commissioner to keep citizens informed on the latest news and events.

The county recently awarded a few businesses with some monies the county had received from COVID years. “Yesterday we approved quite a few small businesses in the county to receive matching grants. So just to let the community know, we were able to grant over $185,000.00 to these businesses. Just so the community knows, these are COVID funds and grant funds through state grants, as well as, rural county grant fund through the state,” explained Commissioner Leonard.  Hopefully the funding will help those local businesses to grow, expand, hire and/or develop new product.

There will be some Easter Egg hunts taking place in Emery County and all the children in the community are invited to attend. “So the first one would be Wednesday, Mar. 27, that’s Castle Dale City, that will start at 6:00 pm and that is at Cheddar Field. So different age groups, a lot of fun. Then another Easter Egg Hunt will be on Mar. 30, this one is at 9:00 am at the Buckhorn RV & Resort there in Huntington behind JN Auto and the Easter Bunny will be there,” said Commissioner Leonard. There are several local sponsors who are helping with both events so there should be some great prizes for the children.

With every radio interview with Commissioner Leonard, he always takes time to highlight a department within the county for a job well done. This time he wanted to spotlight the Board Members who donate their time to serve their community. “We wanted to spotlight our Board Members, District Boards, as well as, County Boards. They do a lot of work, they help recommend to the commission, you know the public’s insight on things and what they recommend to the commission to vote on. We’re just excited that people are willing to serve and be a part of the community. So just wanted to give a shoutout to all of our District Board Members, as well as, County Board Members,” said Commissioner Leonard.

The Emery County Commissioners meet twice a month at 3:00 pm at the Emery County Courthouse at 75 East Main Street in Castle Dale. A schedule of meetings is listed on the Emery County website at http://www.emerycounty.com/
