The Carbon Dinos suffered a 3-1 loss to the 4A Springville Red Devils in the season opener Tuesday afternoon on the road.

Falling behind 1-0 in the second inning, the Dinos fought back to tie the game in the top of the third as Trey Richardson knocked in Cody Lowe. The scored remained tied until Springville scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth before closing out the contest in the top of the seventh.

Senior Mitch Olsen was charged with the loss giving up two hits and two earned runs in two innings of relief work. Fellow senior Cole Fossat started the game striking out two, while giving up one hit and one run in two innings of work. Senior Talon Abeyta also pitched two innings, allowing just one hit.

Lowe anchored the Carbon offense registering one hit in his lone appearance at the plate. He also recorded a stolen base and score the team's only run in the setback.

Junior Jayden Flemmett finished 1-3 with a double at the plate. Olsen also finished 1-3 in the box and Fossat finished 2-3 with two singles.

With the season opener now in the books the Dinos will travel down south to St. George for the Pizza Hut Classic on Friday and Saturday. Friday Carbon will meet Dixie and Tooele, before wrapping up pool play against Stansbury the following day. The outcome of the three games will determine who Carbon plays in the finale on Saturday.
