The Carbon Lady Dinos rebounded from their first loss of the season with a thrilling 56-49 victory over 4A Spanish Fork Wednesday evening in the home opener.

Lindsey Blanc once again led the team in scoring with an 18-point performance. Cyene Bigelow and Kelsey Sorenson each posted 10 points. The win is the eighth of the season for the Lady Dinos, and marks only their second win by single digits.

Spanish Fork’s Taylor Stewart scored a game-high 22 points to pace the Dons. Cambrie Hazel contributed eight points and Ryle Tobiasson finished with seven. The loss sends Spanish Fork to 2-3 overall.

Holding a comfortable 10-point lead at the break, the Lady Dinos were outscored 18-8 in the third quarter. Battling back from a small deficit, Carbon nearly pulled out the victory in regulation, but Spanish Fork used a last second three in regulation to force overtime.

During the extra period the Lady Dinos managed to convert at the free throw line as they outscored the Dons 11-4 during to secure the win.

Wednesday’s win allows Carbon to keep pace with Richfield for the best winning percentage in Region 12 during the non-league portion of the schedule. While the Lady Dinos have raced out to an 8-1 record, the Lady Wildcats sit at 6-1.

With only two games remaining before the Christmas break, the Lady Dinos will return to the court on Friday as they travel to meet the Uintah Utes. The final game before the break will take place at home on Tuesday against North Summit.
