This week’s Carbon School District update shines a spotlight on Bruin Point Elementary. This year the school is under the direction of a new Principal, Connie Todachinnie who brings with her many years of educational experience.

“So I moved down to Montezuma Creek about 23 years ago that’s really where I started my educational experience. I had been a paraprofessional the year before in Sanpete County but moved to San Juan County and started teaching, feel in love with the area and spent 23 years there,” said Principal Todachinnie. She was born and raised in Utah County and still has many family members who reside there.

Through her many years of teaching she at one point worked under Superintendent Lance Hatch when he was a principal at Monticello Elementary as she explains, “He became the Elementary Director for San Juan School District when I was an instructional coach. So, he became my direct supervisor and I worked with him for about a year or two in that position. So, it was great to reconnect with him by coming up here.”

Now that school is in full swing, she seems to be settling in to her new digs quite well. “I have to say that I have a phenomenal staff – the teachers, paraprofessionals, the lunch ladies, I mean everybody, the afterschool program Rising Raptors folks, I couldn’t have hand picked a better staff,” said Principal Todachinnie. She said its been so nice to work with a group that is willing to learn and adapt to any changes.

The school recently held its Back to School Night which gave the new Principal an opportunity to meet parents and other individuals within the community. “Our Back to School Night we had a wonderful turnout. Parents came and got to see their student’s teachers. I got to meet a lot of parents – yea, its really hard to memorizing eyeballs because you can’t see through masks, but other than that we’ve just had an awesome start to the year,” said Principal Todachinnie. She is excited to be at Bruin Point Elementary and is looking forward to taking the helm as the new Principal.
