The Emery Spartans failed to qualify as a team for the second and final day of the 3A State Championship Golf Tournament Wednesday afternoon at Round Valley in Morgan.

Needing to end inside the top 9 to move on to the final day, the Spartans finished 11th overall with a team score of 350. Morgan currently sits at the top of the team leaderboard with a 302, seven-strokes better than second place Delta. Judge Memorial, Richfield and Grantsville round out the top five.

While the Spartans will not move on as a team, Trevin Wakefield remains in contention for an individual state championship.

After shooting three-over-par, Wakefield is currently tied for sixth with a 75. Trailing third place by just two strokes, Wakefield is six back of the leaders Bode Salas and Jake Henrie.

Tayven Guymon was second on the Emery team as he ended with an 89. Kavery Killpack and Joey Leonard both shot a 93 to round out the team of four scores. Carter Huntington and Devan Guymon also participated, but did not count towards the team’s final total.

Wakefield will continue play Thursday morning as he is set to tee-off on No. 10 at 11:00 a.m.. Stay tuned to Castle Country Radio for updates as they become available.
