Carolyn Tew McCandless left this world quietly and peacefully in her Huntington home on the afternoon of January 13, 2021. Carolyn was born January 22, 1937 in Mapleton, Utah.  She was the daughter of Burton Edwin Tew and Leah Carolina Lundell and the step-daughter of Mary LeRoy Tew. Carolyn was reunited with her husband William Edward McCandless along with two of her children Donald McCandless and Sharon Pollaehne. What a happy reunion awaited her there.  She was also preceded in death by her parents as well as siblings, Burton Edwin Tew Jr., William Frederick Tew, Norma Berntson, Lynette Tew. She is survived by two sons, Wayne McCandless and Michael McCandless as well as siblings Jonathan (Gloria) Tew, Thomas (Judy) Tew and sisters-in-law Louise Tew and Sandra Tew.

Being raised on a dairy farm, she learned the value of hard work that continued with her all her life.  As a result, she lived a full and beautiful life. She graduated as salutatorian from Altamont High School and continued her education at Brigham Young University where she graduated with a degree in literature. Education was always of great importance to Carolyn and she continued to study and learn the rest of her life.

She met her husband William Edward ‘Ted’ McCandless while attending BYU and on May 22, 1958 they married for time and all eternity in the Manti Utah Temple. Together they worked to build a life full of love and service. They were a beautiful example to all of a loving and devoted marriage. Together they raised four children, Donald (Karen) McCandless, Wayne (Juanita) McCandless, Sharon (Andy) Pollaehne and Michael (Helen) McCandless. As a mother, Carolyn offered all she had to her children.

Carolyn and Ted were surrounded by a large and loving family. She leaves behind 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She lived her life in service to them. Her time was spent making their lives better. Carolyn had an infectious passion for life. She loved to garden and kept a stunning yard full of roses, fruit trees and everything else. She enjoyed reading, cooking and spending time with her family. She was the best mother and grandmother anyone could ever want. She worked for many years as a bookkeeper for multiple companies including Nielson Construction. Carolyn was a pillar of strength, a peace maker, an advocate, a provider, a friend and an unwavering example of faith in God.

Funeral services will be held Monday, January 18, 2021, 11:00 a.m., at the Huntington Stake Center. A viewing will be held prior to the funeral services starting at 9:30 a.m. She will be laid to rest in the Huntington City Cemetery.  Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home of Price and Huntington where friends are always welcome daily and may share memories online at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net
