
Jess Christiansen of the Emery Spartans claimed first place at the pre-state cross country event held at Rose Park on Wednesday. Christiansen finished No. 1 out of nearly 200 runners at the meet. Overall the Emery boys took 11th place out of 15 teams in the junior/senior division.
This marks Christiansen’s third top two finish of the year. The Spartans will compete just three more times before the state meet on October 27.
Christiansen turned in a time of 16:14.8 just ahead of Carbon’s Kobe Cruz, who took second with a time of 16:45.8. Paul Squire of Union, Andrew Wadley of Viewmont and Jett Davenport of Union rounded out the top five in the junior/senior division. Merritt Meccarriello, Byron Christiansen, Sid Christiansen and Gregory Suwyn all competed in the competition for the Spartans.
On the freshmen/sophomore side, Camdon Larson was Emery’s top finisher, taking second place overall with a time of 17:33.5. Jack and Hayden Christiansen along with Dillan Larsen and Mason Stewart rounded out Emery’s top five as the team finished the day taking third out of 16 teams.
Kallee Cook was the top runner for Emery girls in the junior/senior bracket coming in 22 out of 146. Adaley Lester, Ryleigh Meccarriello, Kadrianne Bird and Daicee Ungerman also took part in the meet. The Lady Spartans ended the day in tenth place out of 12 participating teams.
On the freshman/sophomore division, Emery only had two runners Kylee Willis who finished in 38 and Kallee Lake coming in 65 out of 160 runners.
Up next is the Carbon Invitational at the Carbon Golf Course on Wednesday. Over 14 schools will take part and the races will begin at 3 p.m..
