Creekview Elementary was highlighted on this week’s Carbon School District weekly update so Principal Keith Palmer stopped by Castle Country Radio to discuss what’s been taking place at the school.
Last year the schools had to put a hold on any sort of large gathering due to the COVID pandemic. This year the school was able to host their Literacy Night for Families and the presentation was given by a local author. “In October we got to hold our Literacy Night, it had been an annual event that we had to postpone for a year but it was awesome. We had local author and teacher, Cami Carlson come and speak with the kids, she did an amazing job about motivating them and providing them an opportunity to buy her books. It was awesome we had a lot of people there, we feed the families dinner and the whole thing, it’s a great event,” stated Principal Palmer. This event had a huge turnout than in previous years and it was all due to the local celebrity.
The fifth-grade students have been very busy with activities like the Constitution Bee. “We were able to have our Constitution Bee where they have time to look through the constitution and memorize things that they want, and then they have a competition, kind of like a spelling bee but it’s all about the constitution. So we held that event thanks to the Lions Club that sponsors that and the fifth-grade has a lot of fun with that. Those kids are so smart, they know a lot things that I don’t know,” said Principal Palmer. The top students who placed in the competition were able to walk away with cold hard cash presented by the Lions Club.
When students return from the Thanksgiving holiday, they will be preparing for the Santa Flight event that will take place in December. “So our school was selected to participate in this event, it’s a pretty big event where there is an organization that is working on this that is going to be bringing in school supplies, Christmas gifts, books for the kids. They do one Title I school a year and we were lucky enough to be selected. So we will be taking all the kids out to the airport here in a few weeks and having these planes fly in to bring them these things. We have a lot of community partners working with us on that to be out there with us and bring the stuff back. It’s going to be exciting,” explained Principal Palmer. Further information about the Santa Flight event will be sent home with students at a later time.
