The Price Kiwanis Club Annual Adopt a Duck Race will take place in Scofield at the Pleasant Valley Days celebration on Saturday, July 2. The race is set to start at 2:30 pm, it will begin in the creek above Scofield and will end in town. Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with Kiwanis Member, Nick Tatton to discuss all the details of this year’s race.

“What a great event so folks can adopt ducks. The tickets you buy, the ticket for your adoption matches the number on the duckie. We dump a couple thousand ducks in the stream, race them down the stream, have a finish line set up and the first duck out wins cash prizes. First duck out wins $1,000.00, second duck is $500.00, then $300.00, then $200.00 and we even give the last place duck a $100.00 prize so the very last one to cross the finish line,” explained Tatton. The great thing about participating in the duck race is that individuals need not be present to win.

During the Kiwanis Radio Auction held in April there were folks that purchased items from the auction that were given duckies as part of their purchase. “So through the radio auction we gave away a lot of duckies, people bought duckies at the radio auction, and if you paid full price you got a free duck in the race. Folks that have those certificates just find any Kiwanis Member you can exchange those certificates for duck tickets or swing by the booth in the park at Scofield on Saturday, July 2 and we’ll gladly exchange that certificate for ducks,” said Tatton. Duckie tickets are also available for purchase at Castle County Radio on 1899 North Carbonville Road.

“You cannot win, if you are not in, ducks there $5.00 per adoption and then again if you have certificates, you can use those certificates. It’s $5.00 per adoption, per duck, we sell a whole book of tickets, a whole flock of ducks is $50.00. We like to have a lot of fun and again all the money raised goes directly back into the children’s charities. Things like hearing aids, eyeglasses, and kids day in the park, and Sub for Santa. This year we’ve been doing the Kiwanis 100-year birthday celebration and giving out a lot of prizes to kids and things that way,” said Tatton. The annual events such as the Duck Race, Radio Auction, Kids Day in the Park would not be possible without the assistance from community members.

Individuals who would like to Adopt a Duck may do so by purchasing tickets from any Kiwanis member or visit Castle Country Radio Station on Carbonville Road.
