The Panthers baseball team shook off a tough loss earlier last week and closed it out with a big win. The loss came at the hands of Wayne in an 18-0 drubbing, but quickly put that game behind them and maybe took out some frustrations on Diamond Ranch Academy 17-8.

Pinnacle is sitting at 6-9 this season and will have to wait with the rest of 1A to find out their final RPI ranking on Sept. 26 when the final rankings as well as the bracket for the 1A State Championships which will begin on Sept. 30.

The Panthers were never in the contest against Wayne on the road, with the home team scoring 10 runs in the first three innings, and saving some offense for their eight run fourth, with the game ending after five.

Moving on from the loss Pinnacle traveled to face Diamond Ranch. The first meeting between the two in Price was an 11-7 win for the Panthers. In this game Pinnacle didn’t put up any runs until the third when the crossed the plate twice. Diamond Ranch would come up in the bottom of the inning, knotting the game at two.

In the fourth, Pinnacle would go to work putting up five runs only to watch as Diamond Ranch do the same, tying the score at seven.

Pinnacle would wait and make their move in the sixth and the seventh putting up a total of 10 runs and earning the 17-8 victory.

Joey Howell was 1-5 from the plate with one RBI and scored four runs. Todd McFarland collected a hit with a pair of RBI’s and three runs.

Brody Howell got the start on the bump for the Panthers giving up seven runs (three earned) on four hits with five strike outs. McFarland came in going three, giving up a run on two hits, striking out six and getting the win.

Two games remain and the Panthers will get started on Wednesday when they welcome one of the top 1A programs to Price, Piute.

Then on Friday they will be on the road in Tropic to take on Bryce Valley.

The game Wednesday with Piute will be Senior Day, the game is set to start at 3 p.m..
