Anita Williams O’Neil returned to her Heavenly Father after unexpectedly passing at her home in Wellington, Utah on October 2, 2022.

Anita was born to Harvey W. Williams and Reita Georgeson Williams on June 26, 1945 in Castle Dale, Utah. The family later moved to Wellington where she grew up, went to school and stayed to raise her family.  She graduated from Carbon High School in 1963 and from Carbon College (CEU) with her degree in cosmetology. She married Michael V. O’Neil on August 12, 1965 and was blessed with five children. They later divorced.

Ma re-entered the work force in the 1970’s after years of caring for her young children and being a devoted room-mother, costume maker and seamstress. She enjoyed the many friendships she made at her jobs. She returned to college after the closing of Koret of California and earned an Associate’s Degree in business. Shortly after, she started her dream job as the Benefits Counselor at the NOWCAP/Black Lung Benefit Office in Price. She dearly loved “her miners” and worked hard to assist them. Mom loved people and felt she had a purpose when she was helping others. After 23 years of dedicated service; she retired September 30, 2022.

Ma enjoyed working in her yard, sewing, crocheting, quilting, and a large variety of other crafts. She also enjoyed water skiing at Lake Powell, trap shooting, rodeo and traveling. She was crowned Rodeo Queen in her youth. G-Ma loved teaching her talents to her grandchildren and they loved learning from her just as much. To them she was a light, a home, and a very best friend.

While her children and grandchildren were her “greatest accomplishment,” her other greatest joys came from the friends, “strays,” her children and grandchildren brought in to her life. She affectionately became known as “Ma” or “G-Ma” to everyone that sat with her on her porch, or around her kitchen table. When she loved, she loved fiercely, and always took the time to visit and listen. She will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege to know and love her.

Ma/G-Ma’s sense of humor, wit, wisdom, and unconditional love will be greatly missed.

Anita is survived by her children and their spouses, Sheila and Jeff Keele, Diana and John Penrod, Leigh and Cody Mecham, J.R. and Debbie O’Neil, and J.C.
