
The Carbon tennis regular season has come to an end and now it is time to get down to the business of state championships, but before they can punch their ticket for Liberty Park May 12 and 13, they first must get past the opening round which will take place this weekend in Richfield.
Carbon didn’t have the best season, but there has been growth this year and things to build on heading into the playoffs.
Round one will be a play-in match of sorts, with everyone who is eligible facing the lower seeds throughout 3A. This season only the top eight singles players in each rank (first, second and third singles and first and second doubles) are guaranteed a spot at Liberty Park.
In first singles for the Dinos it will be junior Cameron Jones (No. 21) who will face off against No. 12 Joseph Hilton of Maeser. The winner of this match will move on to face the No.6 first singles player Colin Beckstead of American Heritage.
Sophomore Dresden Miller the No. 20 player in second singles will take the court to go up against No. 13 Stockton Ross of Union. No. 4 Rowan Hodell of Waterford will be waiting for the winner of this match-up.
Dylan Black, a freshman, is the highest ranked player for Carbon at No.16 in third singles, he faces Braxton Hopkins, No. 17 from Juan Diego, the winner faces the No. 1 seed in third singles Peter Ondrus of Ogden.
Moving to doubles, Carbon first double team consisting of sophomores Memphis Howell and Nicholas Bryner at No. 19, will lock up with the No. 14 team of Hunter Chamberlain and Tanishk Dhru of Juan Diego. Whoever comes out on top in this one faces the No. 3 team from Rowland Hall of Zachary Klein and Hans Baker.
The second doubles team of junior Hayden Todachinnie and freshman Judson Varner , who hold the No. 20 spot will face the No. 13 team from Grand, Jace Reidhead and Cooper Potts. Boston Fuhriman and Dax Helton of Morgan the No. 4 team await the winners of this match.
The winners of the round one matches will move on to Liberty Park on May 12 and 13 to finish off the 3A State Tennis Championships.
