It’s time to sit down with Emery County Commissioner Jordan Leonard to find out about spring run-off, baseball fundraiser and recognize the Rec District for a job well done. Castle Country Radio will now have an opportunity every other week to speak with the commissioner to keep citizens informed on the latest news and events.

“The weather has been pretty mild, as we’ve seen the run-off from the snowpack and so it’s been almost ideal for Spring run-off. So we haven’t seen much flooding at all, the reservoirs are filling up at a good rate and the rivers are full. So people are hopping on the San Rafael River and enjoying that recreational opportunity. Yea, it’s been really mild, and we’re excited that there hasn’t been any flooding that we were kind of projecting depending on the weather, so things are good,” stated Commissioner Leonard. The spillway has been running at the golf course which has been a wonderful sight to have as you’re enjoying a game of golf.

Speaking of golf, there is an upcoming Golf Tournament that is going to benefit a local Emery County Baseball Team. “So this is a fundraiser where the Business Chamber, Tourism Office, and the 11 year old, Warriors Baseball Team from Emery County got together and said, hey, lets put on a golf tournament. So what’s fun about this golf tournament is its on June 30, for those of you that are interested, it starts at 5:30 pm. So what makes this one fun is you will play nine holes of golf during the day, and then, I believe there will be some little activities in between, until it gets dark, and then it will be glow golf, so night golf,” explained Commissioner Leonard. If you are interested in participating in this Warriors Baseball Golf Tournament Fundraiser, please call Millsite Golf Course at (435) 384-2887.

As with all his radio interviews Commissioner Leonard takes time to highlight a county department for a job well done. This time around the spotlight is on the Rec District who most recently finished up with youth summer sports and are now going into adult sports like softball.  “We just wanted to highlight them and tell them thanks for what they do to help our community to become a place that we want to live and recreate and give people social opportunities,” said Commissioner Leonard.  If you are interested in the adult softball program and need more information, please contact the Rec District at (435) 381-3505.

The Emery County Commissioners meet twice a month at 3:00 pm at the Emery County Courthouse at 75 East Main Street in Castle Dale. A schedule of meetings is listed on the Emery County website at http://www.emerycounty.com/
