The Sixth Annual Green River Rocks Festival will be held on April 5 through April 7 in Green River. Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with Epicenter’s Project Manager, Zoe Gardner to get all the event details and learn what the Epicenter does.

The Epicenter is a valuable resource for the Green River community as Gardner explains, “Epicenter is a community design non-profit rooted in Green River, Utah and we are currently, primarily, working to build affordable housing in town, as well as just kind of sustain community development around downtown.” Epicenter’s founders were invited to work in Green River as AmeriCorps volunteers. They stayed because they fell in love with the place, the people, and the opportunities. Epicenter’s work and ethic reaches far beyond Green River, Utah, but it remains their home and headquarters.

“Green River Rocks is a yearly rock and mineral festival that is focused on the natural history, geology, cultures of the Colorado Plateau. The festival features fieldtrips led by experts in geology, paleontology, and archeology to sites in and around Green River, Utah. The event is headquartered at the John Wesley Powell River History Museum and is open to the public and free to attend,” said Gardner. The event was formerly known as the Green River Rock & Mineral Festival but has been changed to Green River Rocks.

Right now event coordinators are looking for individuals to set up vendor booths for guests to shop for various items. “So we’re currently looking for educational vendors, local artists and makers, gem, rock and mineral vendors, as well as food vendors. The event typically draws in about 350 to 400 people throughout the weekend, so it’s definitely a party,” said Gardner.  This year’s market will take place on Saturday, Apr. 6 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, there is no vendor fee to participate in the outdoor market.
