Jamie Lynn James Preston passed away unexpectedly at the age of 69, on April 24, 2024, at her home in Spring Glen, Utah.

She was born in Price, Utah on September 5, 1954 to Glen LeRoy and Leah Phyllis Nielsen James. She was the fourth of six girls, despite the doctor promising that “this one will be a boy.”

Jamie graduated from Carbon High School in 1972 where she played the flute in the marching band. Jamie earned her LPN license at the age of 17 and pursued a life-long career in nursing, dedicating over 40 years to caring for others. Jamie started her nursing career at Carbon Hospital and then continued on to Castleview Hospital, and Pinnacle Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Jamie met the love of her life, Scott Preston, in 1975. They were married on February 12, 1982. Together, they raised a family with two children, Courtney and Ethan, both of whom she was so proud. Jamie adored her children and spoiled her grandchildren whenever she got the chance, including the four-legged ones.

When she was not trying to avoid a heart attack brought on by Ethan’s lively shenanigans, she was handing out his business cards to help promote and support his passion for art and tattooing; anything to get him to stop drawing on the walls!

Jamie could often be found curled up with a book and a blanket, of which we will end a long-standing family debate, you cannot ever have too many blankets or books! She shared her avid love of reading with her daughter. Courtney would often surprise her with new books. The two of them would argue over who got to be the first one to read a new addition to their library, a collection that has likely landed them both on an FBI watchlist, as Jamie was fascinated with all things crime and horror related.

Jamie also loved to visit Native American ruins and petroglyphs, as long as it didn’t require more than one day in the dirt because she was an “indoor cat.” She cherished these adventures with her family and friends.

Jamie was full of life and brought so much love and joy to those lucky enough to know her.

She is survived by her husband, Scott Preston; daughter, Courtney Preston; son, Ethan (Kyra) Preston; grandsons, Tripp and Aiden Preston; sisters, Cathy (Randy) Lamph, Peggy Pollock, Paula (David) Mortensen, Glena (Ralph) Vose; sisters-in-law, Betty (Craig) Larsen, Connie Linnemeyer, Danette (Jim) Warren, Hilda Preston; and a large and loving extended family.

Jamie is preceded in death by her parents, Glen and Leah James; in-laws, Herbert and Elma Preston; sister and brother-in-law, Lisa and Jan Wilde; brother-in-law, Garn Pollock; and brothers-in-law, Duane and Joe Preston.
