The Lady Dino softball squad traveled to Roosevelt to take on the Union Cougars. The Dinos would come up just short in a low-scoring battle, falling to the Cougars 3-2.
The Lady Dinos sit at 7-17 overall and are holding on to the No. 11 spot in the latest MaxPreps rankings.
Union would get on the board in the bottom of the first, but Carbon answered back in the top of the second when Kennlee Kennedy sent a single to center to bring Lacie Gregersen in for the score to tie things up at 1-1.
The Cougars would tack on another run in the third to take a one-run lead. The Lady Dinos wouldn’t be able to answer back until the top of the fifth, when a Brailee Peterson triple brought Alexa Jones in from first to tie the game back up once again.
The game would go to the eighth, and after the Cougars didn’t give Carbon a single base runner, Union would come up again in the bottom half of the inning and was able to plate one run off a Dino error to take the 3-2 win.
Even though it was a low-scoring contest, the Dinos did collect seven hits in the game. Peterson went 2-4 with an RBI for Carbon. Aleece Ardohain and Kennlee Kennedy both went 1-3, with Kennedy adding an RBI. Alexa Jones was 1-4 with a run, and Gregersen added one run in the loss.
Kadence Vea got the start on the mound, giving up three runs, one earned, on seven hits, and struck out two.
Carbon is back on the diamond on Tuesday when they travel to Nephi to face the Juab Wasps.
