This Miss Carbon County organization made the decision earlier in the year that due to the COVID-19 pandemic that the current royalty would reign another year so they will have the opportunity to compete at the state level. Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with Miss Carbon County, Lily Vigil who reflects on the past year and explains her plans for the future.
The 2020 pageant should have been taking place this week but because of current times with COVID that has been postponed until next year. “So because of the Corona Virus and everything going on with that, so six months ago our year basically got cut in half and so we had a conversation with the directors and asked if we could serve for another term or even just fulfill the six months after because we just felt like we still wanted that, we still had some stuff that needed to be done,” said Miss Carbon County. Even though the royalty will continue their terms for another year they still will have the opportunity to compete at the state pageant level next summer.
The COVID pandemic has put many restrictions on activities and events but this has not stopped the royalty from completing and participating in numerous service projects around the community. Miss Carbon County talks about the event she enjoyed around the Thanksgivings holiday, “We had this Thanksgiving Heroes event where we got to go and deliver these dinners to all these families in need and that was so cool to be able to actually be out in the community doing that type of stuff and just being able to go out to all sorts of different things was so cool; it’s seriously been such a great year.” It’s very important for the Miss Carbon County organization to give back to the community so members of the royalty are always lending a helping hand.
This year Miss Carbon County’s service platform is The Second Chance Movement: Opioid Epidemic Awareness and she hopes that by continuing to reign for another year she will have the opportunity to share information about her platform. “So depending when all the COVID-19 stuff calms down, I will finally be able to go out into the community to implement my social impact initiative more with is The Second Chance Movement: Opioid Epidemic Awareness. So, I have some super fun things planned for that so I’ve actually been talking to the Health Department and the Additive We Stand Group to be able to get out into the community to kind of help with the stigma on drug use and such,” said Miss Carbon County. The avenues are wide open when it comes to choosing a service platform, generally, it’s a cause that is dear to the royalty’s heart.
