Well, I finally made it! I passed away on August 5, 2022 at the age of 78.

I was born in my Grandparents home, a 2-room log cabin, in Montwell, UT on the Ute Indian Reservation on September 13, 1943 to Verl Worthen Olsen and Marvella Amelia Fenn Olsen. I was raised mainly in Carbonville, UT until I was 21, along with three brothers. Then my baby sis was born. Our home was three rooms, which included one bedroom for six people. There was no indoor bathroom; we had an outhouse, AND it was a two-seater, so you and your friend could “GO” together. We could converse, play games or gossip til we completed our jobs. Talk about togetherness!

I married Gene “Geno” Manzanares in 1969; we later divorced. We have three great kids, Steven Lynn, Michelle, and Shane.

My favorite thing to do was to read – ANYTHING! I loved going to yard sales and playing cards. BUT – The thing that I always did best, though, was to sleep and be lazy. I was a coffee-aholic and enjoyed a smoke. There was always a pot of coffee on at the house, or at least enough to warm up whenever anyone came by.

I worked a Mountain Bell Telephone Co. (MA BELL), Ann Self Training Center, Braztah/Price River Coal Mine, Baker Mine Service/EIMCO, LeMar, Inc., Longwall Sales/Underground Services, and U.W. Freight. LOTS OF JOBS, HUH?! They were fantastic places to work, and my bosses were absolutely the best that anyone could have or ever ask for. BUT! I have to say that retirement was the best job ever. Being retired and being home was great.

I went to school at Sunnyside Elementary, Central and Harding Elementary Schools, Price Jr. High, Helper Jr. High, and graduated from Carbon High School in 1961.

I am survived by my children, Steven Lynn (Dawn), Michelle, and Shane (Krystal); two brothers, Wayne Olsen and Doug (Mary) Olsen; one sister, Dawn Marie (James) Stowe; and I can’t forget my very special niece, Rebecca (Keith) Mason; there are also 17 grandkids, 20 great grandkids, and numerous nieces and nephews, whom I love very much.

I was preceded in death by my parents, Verl and Marvella Olsen; my brother, Fredrick George Olsen; sister-in-law, Katherine Andreen Olsen; and one great grandson, Theodore Notah Begaye; also, I can’t leave out my ex-husband, Gene “Geno” Manzanares!

In case you’re interested, my grandparents were George and Susan Bell Lebrum Fenn, and Fredrick and Laura Armenda Worthen Olsen.

You know, we are all just passing time here and occupy our chair only briefly. The time I’ve had here was a gift. And I thank God for being able to have had a chair here with my family and friends. Life’s a bunch of little moments all wrapped up together, and when I look back on these moments for the last time, I’m pretty darn proud. I see God’s light in this family of mine every day.

Memorial Graveside, Tuesday, August 16, 2022, 11:00 a.m., Price City Cemetery.  Following the graveside a Celebration of Life party to celebrate my life, not mourn my death will be held.  Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home where friends are always welcome daily and may share memories online at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net.
